Procedure for Earning a Doctoral Degree

Note to Students Planning to Complete the Program Early:

Students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and plan to complete the program earlier than the normal three-year period must consult their academic supervisor and the Student Affairs Section at least six months before the planned completion date. When you apply for early completion, you must also inform the Student Affairs Section about your planned early completion before your Research Results Presentation (Preliminary Review) takes place.

1. Letter of Recommendation (Attachment: Form 1) [Sample]
 * To be prepared by the academic supervisor

2. Dissertation Draft and Abstract of Dissertation Draft (Attachment: Form 2) [Word] [PDF]
* The above form is different from the “Draft of Dissertation Abstract” required for a preliminary review in terms of format, but both forms shall be identical in content.


3. Paper that has been published or is to be published
* If your paper is being submitted to an academic journal, provide copies of proof of scheduled publication or its equivalent.

4. Curriculum Vitae (Attachment: Form 3) [Word] [PDF]
* Indicate “Studying at the Department of XXXX of the Graduate School of Engineering” for your most recent education.

5. List of Research Achievements (Attachment: Form 4) [PDF] [Sample]
[The history of academic conference presentations must be included.]
* List not only your published papers related to your dissertation, but also all other achievements. Please note that papers that have been submitted but not yet published should not be listed on this form.

6. Record of Early Completion Review (Attachment: Form5) [PDF]

7. Written proof of research activities at a research institution or corporation or letter of self-recommendation (to be prepared in any format on A4 paper)
